General Car Maintenance Recommendations

If you own a vehicle, you want to ensure you properly take care of it. To ensure you take care of your car, you need to conduct routine maintenance at an authorized garage. Keep your vehicle in optimal condition by regularly servicing it here at Japanese Vehicle Service Center (JVSC). Regularly servicing your car will help you get the best level of safety, performance, reliability, and even resale value if you decide to sell it in the future.

Below is a look at the recommended maintenance schedule for a vehicle. Please keep in mind that this is only a recommendation. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about your car. Also, this is not a comprehensive list of recommendations.

After 5000km or 6 months, whichever comes first;

  • Check your wiper blades
  • Interchange your vehicle’s tires and adjust tire pressure as required
  • Take your vehicle for a road test
  • Reset the maintenance reminder light
  • Inspect brake pads, calipers, and rotors
  • Inspect installation of driver’s floor mat
  • Check and adjust fluid levels
  • Program vehicle’s personalized settings (if requested)

If you drive a lot on dusty, muddy, or dirt roads, the following are some other service items you should take care of after 5000km or six months;

  • Examine dust covers and ball joints
  • Inspect the engine air filter
  • Inspect axle shaft boots

After every year or 10000km, whichever comes first;

  • Replace the engine oil and oil filter
  • Interchange the tires and adjust tire pressure as necessary
  • Change the cabin air filter

After every one and a half years or 24100km, whichever comes first;

  • Get another battery for your Smart Key
  • Check brake lines and hoses
  • Check the engine coolant
  • Examine body
  • Check axle shaft boots
  • Examine wiper blades

After every three years or 48200km, whichever comes first;

  • Replace brake fluid
  • Check automatic transmission to spot signs of leakage
  • Replace brake fluid
  • Inspect brake rotor thickness and runout
  • Inspect the fuel tank cap gasket

After six years or 96500km, whichever comes first;

  • Inspect drive belt(s) (inspect every one and a half years after the first inspection)
  • Replace spark plugs
